LOUPE-ABEILLE

The hive

  • The brood box: This is the main part of the hive where the frames and honeycombs are found. Inside, the queen lays the eggs, and the bees store pollen and honey.
  • Frames: These contain a sheet of embossed wax and are placed vertically. They help the bees build their honeycomb.
  • Honey super: This is where the hive’s honey reserves are stored. The bees store their surplus honey in the cells of the honeycomb here. This is the honey that the beekeeper will harvest.
  • The crown board: This allows the bees to retain heat in the hive and facilitates the evaporation of moisture.
  • Queen excluder: This prevents the queen from laying eggs in the honey super, where the beekeeper harvests the honey.
  • The roof: This simply protects the hive from the rain.
  • The hive entrance: It is possible to add a grid to protect access to the hive
    from predators such as hornets.

 The alighting board: This is essential for foraging bees to take off and land. It
also allows guard bees to protect the entrance and observe what is happening
around the hive.
